Lawler Named ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? UALR senior Brett Lawler was named ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District VI on Wednesday, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A native of College Station, Texas, Lawler is majoring in exercise science with a minor in health science and sports a 3.88 cumulative grade point average.

 

A first baseman/catcher, Lawler is the only Trojan to start all 46 games this season and is tied for the team lead with 14 doubles. Ten of his 14 doubles have come in Sun Belt Conference play, tying him for third place in the league rankings. Lawler is batting .258 on the year with 25 runs scored and is fourth on the team with 25 RBI. He led the Trojans to a 6-5 win over Northern Iowa on Feb. 17 by hitting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th.

 

As a junior in 2006, Lawler appeared in all 54 games with 53 starts and batted .267. He raised his batting average to .326 in league play and was named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List for achieving a GPA of 3.5 and above.

 

UALR (20-26, 8-15) returns to action this weekend (May 11-13) with a three-game series against the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette, La. The Trojans close out the regular season next weekend with three games against Arkansas State at Gary Hogan Field (May 17-19).
