LITTLE ROCK – The UALR soccer team earned a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Thursday morning, claiming the honor for the fifth consecutive season.
The Trojans, with a team grade point average of 3.25, have won this award every season since 2009. UALR's streak of five consecutive years is tied for the fourth-longest streak in the Sun Belt. All teams with a grade point average above 3.00 are given this award.
On the field, the Trojans advanced to the Sun Belt Tournament for the first time since 2009, falling in the first round by a narrow 2-1 margin against regular-season champion Western Kentucky. Junior Ariel Galletti was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team, and the Trojans doubled their win total from the 2012 season.
