Benton and Zimmerman Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

LITTLE ROCK – Former UALR men's golfer Nicklaus Benton and senior Nick Zimmerman have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches of America Association announced on Wednesday.

To be eligible, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 (Division I) and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. A total of 152 Division I players from schools across the nation were honored.

A native of Cabot, Ark., Benton played in all 10 events as a senior, ranking second on the team and 14th in the Sun Belt Conference with a 74.46 scoring average. He totaled seven top-25 finishes on the year, including a runner-up showing at the Cardinal Intercollegiate on Sept. 24-25 in Louisville, Ky. Benton added another top-ten finish at the ASU Fall Beach Classic (Nov. 5-6), firing a one-over par 73 in his final round to place seventh at six-over par 222 (74-75-73). Benton boasts a 3.31 cumulative GPA as a business management major.

Zimmerman saw action in eight events as a redshirt junior in the 2012-13 season, averaging 75.27 strokes over 22 rounds. A native of North Little Rock, he earned a career-best runner-up finish at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic at Chenal CC in Little Rock, finishing at 12-over par 228 (73-76-79) at the UALR-hosted event. Zimmerman boasts a 3.44 cumulative GPA as a business management major and was named to the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll each of the last two years for earning a GPA of 3.0-3.49.
