LITTLE ROCK – For the sixth straight year, the UALR women's soccer team has won the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the association announced on Monday.
UALR had a team grade point average of 3.20, easily qualifying for the NSCAA's annual award. The Trojans' current streak of consecutive awards began after the 2009 season and continues now in 2014. Before 2009, the team last claimed the award in 1999.
To qualify for the award, a team must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.00.
The Trojans' streak of six consecutive years is the second-longest of all Sun Belt teams.
On the field this season, UALR was excellent as well. The Trojans started the year 9-0 and eventually had the first winning season in program history. The team reached the Sun Belt Tournament for the second consecutive season, nearly upsetting top-seeded South Alabama in the first round. Fali Garuba, a freshman, was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team.
