LITTLE ROCK – For the second time this season, Trojan senior
Josh Hagins has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Â
Hagins scored a season-high 19 points and handed out eight assists against zero turnovers in Little Rock's 22-point victory over DePaul on Saturday night. He finished the game shooting 6 of 10 from the floor and 6 of 6 from the foul line while adding two steals in 36 minutes of work.
Â
Hagins keyed Little Rock's 18-4 run to start the second half that grew the Trojans' nine-point halftime lead into a 23-point margin. The senior guard scored six points of his own while adding two assists during the second-half spurt that effectively put the game out of reach for the Blue Demons.
Â
Hagins entered Saturday's game with a Sun Belt-best 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio, which improved to 3.7 after Saturday's performance. He ranks second in the league in assists (5.1) and second in free throw percentage (.880). He now has at least two steals in all but one game this season and ranks fifth in the league at 1.9 steals per game.
Â
This is Hagins' second Sun Belt Student-Athlete of the Week award this season. He was previously tabbed for the award earlier this month on Dec. 1 after averaging 14.0 points, 6.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in wins over East Carolina and Tulsa.
Â
Additionally, Hagins was named the National Mid-Major Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com while also taking the site's Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honor on Monday.
Â
Hagins and the Trojans are back in action Wednesday night at Central Arkansas. The contest tips off from the Farris Center at 7 p.m.
