LITTLE ROCK – Freshman
Sydney Chastain is one of six newcomers joining the Trojans in 2016-17. In high school, she was the Oklahoma winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman Award in 2016.
Â
Chastain holds the Westmoore High School record for assists and steals, and set the school single-season assist record with 159.
Â
What has been biggest surprise so far with college level workouts and practices?
Definitely the speed and strength that comes with it. The girls are a lot faster than you would expect, and strength wise it's a lot more aggressive and physical.
Â
What are your goals for your freshman season?
So far it's to get playing time and to produce on the court and be more aggressive.
Â
What gets you hyped up before a game?
Hearing the crowd right before the game, but sometimes I'll listen to music. Also, if we're getting hyped up in the locker room that's always pretty fun.
Â
How do you recover after a hard loss?
I go back and try to figure out what I did wrong, and I try to make sure that I focus on that in practice. I try to make my mistakes in practice rather than in the games.
Â
What was it that made you sign with the Trojans?
It was a choice between Little Rock and the Air Force Academy. I met the team here at Little Rock, but not at Air Force Academy. From those couple of minutes I could just tell that they were really fun and more of a family. That was a big deal for me because I didn't just want to come into a team, I wanted to come into a family.
