Five Questions: Lis Shoshi

LITTLE ROCK – Lis Shoshi will be a key piece on a Little Rock squad that is picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference. Last season, Shoshi started 34 of 35 games after transferring from Howard College and averaged 7.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.

A double major in economics and finance, Shoshi's game improved as the season progressed. In league play, the 6-11 forward shot 49.5 percent from the floor and made 10 of 18 3-pointers. In a win at Georgia State in February, Shoshi totaled 11 points and 16 rebounds, the most by a Little Rock player since Rashad Jones-Jennings in 2007.

The Peje, Kosovo, native scored a season-high 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and hit a crucial 3-pointer near the end of regulation in the Trojans' win over Purdue.

What was your biggest adjustment last year, going from junior college to Division l?

I would have to say the style of play. I was more involved in the offense and had to move everywhere, not just play under the basket. It wasn't my typical style of just staying inside; I had to move everywhere just like everybody else. Also, I had to watch more film and learn the game more by analyzing the plays.

How do you expect your role to change this season?

This season I have to be more aggressive on offense. I have to take all the opportunities that come my way to score.

What did you work on in the offseason?

I practically lived with Coach (John) Barron, so he had me working on everything. Coach has his ways; he is a master at what he does. Our main focus that we mostly worked on was legs, but whatever he brought to the table I executed.

Twenty years from now, what moments will stand out to you?

The Purdue game. The feeling after winning was incredible.

The whole year was crazy, from beating San Diego State and starting to believe we could be really good, to winning the conference tournament. Everyone doubted us when we played against Purdue, but we believed we could win that game. We stayed focused and did what we were supposed to do and won that game. One of the best moments in my life.

What are your expectations for you and the team this year?

I just want to get back to the NCAA Tournament and have another successful year. For me, I want to be the best player I can be this year and help the team win. Whatever it takes, I'm willing to do it.
