LITTLE ROCK – It's off to the Big Apple for the Little Rock women's basketball team on Saturday as the Trojans will take on Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y., in Rose Hill Gym and 11 a.m. central.
Â
This will be the first-ever game for any Trojan team against a school from New York. The game is being played as a consolation-round affair in the Preseason WNIT. Little Rock reached this stage by defeating North Texas in the opening round and losing to Green Bay in the second. Fordham opened its WNIT with a win over Furman and then lost to No. 1 Notre Dame to set up this matchup.
Â
Saturday's game will be played at Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx, approximately 15 miles north of Times Square, the Empire State Building and other major Manhattan attractions.
Â
Despite losing in its last game, the Little Rock women's basketball team played No. 16 Oklahoma very close, trailing by just one point at halftime and then sticking with the Sooners through the fourth quarter. In that game,
Sharde' Collins set a new career high with 23 points to lead Little Rock.
Â
Kyra Collier had her first breakout game as a member of the Trojans, recording eight rebounds to lead the team and also scoring 8 points.
Kaitlyn Pratt, meanwhile, moved up to No. 9 all-time in team history in rebounding, surpassing Andrea Keys and Taylor Ford in the process.
Â
Saturday will be the Trojans' third consecutive road game in three different states, and the game will also be Little Rock's first in another time zone this year. The Trojans will also travel to the eastern time zone later in the conference schedule when they play Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and new Sun Belt member Coastal Carolina.
Â
Fordham holds a 1-1 record this year after a win over Furman and a loss at Notre Dame. The Rams finished the 2016 season ranked No. 163 in the national RPI and with a record of 14-17. The team was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 Conference this year after winning the league in 2013-14.
