Five Questions: Kyra Collier

LITTLE ROCK – This edition of Five Questions features freshman Kyra Collier, a native of Little Rock. At North Little Rock High School, Collier led her team to a state championship in 2016 and was named the state tournament MVP.

What are your goals for this season?
My goals are to get better, help my teammates get better, and hopefully win a conference championship and go to the NCAA tournament.

What has surprised you so far about college basketball workouts and training?
It's a full time job because you're here all day. You get up in the morning to come work out, after class you're working out too. That's just the grind.

What do you expect to be your biggest adjustment from high school?
Time management with class. It's pretty different because you're on your own, so you don't have anybody telling you what to do. It's pretty different with classes, but I'm adjusting pretty well.

Outside of sports what do you do to unwind or clear your head?
I actually sing pretty well, so I write a lot of music. I spend time with my family too and that helps me out.

What's it like to play for and represent your hometown?
It's a lot of pressure because everyone is like, "We've got our season tickets and we're ready to watch you play!" of course they don't know what it really took for me to actually play and adjust. At the same time it means a lot because my family is a big reason as to why I stayed at home, so having them there will be amazing. They're really what have carried me through my first few months here, so it'll be amazing.
