Trojans Ready for MVC Championship

Schedule of Events | Live Video

LITTLE ROCK – With the regular season over, Little Rock swimming and diving begins the four-day Missouri Valley Conference Championship tomorrow in Carbondale, Ill., on the campus of Southern Illinois. The finals will be held at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 4 p.m., on Saturday. All final events will be streamed for free through YouTube.

Little Rock broke five school records at last year's championship and finished sixth. Jinson Kang was named to the Missouri Valley All-Conference Team while Kayla Grimm, Tori Fryar and Courtney Coe were named as All-Conference Honorable Mentions.

"We are looking forward to turning some heads this week at the MVC Championship," head coach Amy Burgess said. "Even though we are a young team, we have some great leaders in our junior class that have helped prepare everyone for what to expect. The sophomores are also sharing their experiences and come into this week with a little less nerves than last year. The freshmen are just excited to race and show the MVC what they can do."

During the regular season, the Trojans went 1-1 against conference opponents. Little Rock earned its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference win with a 146-135 victory over Evansville on the road in November before taking a loss to Southern Illinois at home in January.

"In practice, the team has never looked better, and we cannot wait for everyone else to see all their hard work pay off," Burgess added.
