Trojans Announce 2016 Outdoor Schedule

LITTLE ROCK – With the indoor season now finished, Little Rock track and field head coach Milton Williams has announced the Trojans' outdoor schedule for 2016.

The 2016 schedule features three meets in the central Arkansas area including the Trojans' third-ever Little Rock Open at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex in early April.

The season will begin close to home, as the Trojans head to Conway for the Central Arkansas Relays on March 12. The next week, Little Rock goes in to Tennessee to compete at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis on March 19.

The Trojans will follow that meet by heading to a Sun Belt Conference rival's home meet. Little Rock will take on the Louisiana Classics, hosted by the Ragin' Cajuns starting on March 25.

Little Rock will enter April with a trip across the country, traveling to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The Stanford Invitational is one of the most prestigious meets in the nation.

Following that weekend trip to the Golden State, Little Rock returns to Arkansas for its only home meet of the track and field season. For the third consecutive year, the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex will host the Little Rock Open on April 8-9. Trojan fans will have their opportunity to see their student-athletes compete on their home track.

The Trojans will split up the following weekend, traveling to three different meets in two different states. Several members of the roster will go to California to take on the Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, Calif., and the Beach Invite hosted by Long Beach State on April 15 and 16. The rest of the team will stay closer to home, returning to Conway to participate in the UCA Open on April 15-16.

The team will reunite the two weeks later in Texas, traveling to El Paso to compete in the UTEP Open. That meet, scheduled for April 30, concludes the regular season.

The Sun Belt Championship will follow, with the Trojans heading south to Gulf Shores, Ala., to compete for a conference title in the last of the team's guaranteed meets. The league championship meet is set for May 8-10.

Little Rock has a chance to send some student-athletes to the national stage as well. Trojans could compete at the NCAA West Regional in Lawrence, Kan., on May 26-28. If any Trojans advance from that competition, they will head to Eugene, Ore., for the national championship meet on June 8-11.
