Official WNIT Announcement
Â
LITTLE ROCK – After partaking in the Postseason WNIT in March, the Little Rock women's basketball team has been selected to compete in the 2016 Preseason WNIT to kick off the upcoming season, the WNIT announced on Wednesday.
Â
The Trojans' opponents, game dates and game times have yet to be announced, but all teams participating in the WNIT were also released Wednesday.
Â
Little Rock will take part in at least three games as part of its appearance in the WNIT.
Â
A main bracket of 16 teams will crown a champion with a potential for four games if the Trojans reach the championship. A team losing in the first round will play two additional games in a consolation bracket; a team losing in the second round of the main tournament is guaranteed one additional consolation game.
Â
This season will mark the Trojans' second ever participation in the Preseason WNIT. The team last took part in the 2009 Preseason WNIT, defeating UTEP and Northern Colorado in the consolation rounds after losing its opening-round game against a nationally ranked Oklahoma State team.
Â
In the 2016 Postseason WNIT, the Trojans lost in the first round at Saint Louis to complete the 2015-16 season. Little Rock has made the Postseason WNIT four times in its history.
Â
Of the 16 teams in the 2016 Preseason field, 11 made the NCAA Tournament or Postseason WNIT last year. The other teams selected to the Preseason WNIT are Abilene Christian, Central Michigan, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Elon, Fordham, Furman, Green Bay, Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas, Notre Dame, Omaha, UT Rio Grande Valley and Washington.
