LAFAYETTE, La. – The Little Rock men's track and field team saw seven points scored in its first two days of competition at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championship on Friday and Saturday with
Isaac Lalang and
Methuselah Lagat accounting for all seven points. The Trojans also had
Zodani Francois advance to Sunday's championship race in the 110 hurdles.

Lalang scored the first points of Saturday for Little Rock in the 3K steeplechase, taking fifth in a time of 9:19.16. That mark is a full 11 seconds faster than his previous best at Little Rock and moves him to the sixth-best time in school history. That placement earned four points for Little Rock.

But Lalang wasn't the only Trojan scorer in the 3K steeplechase as Lagat took seventh in a time of 9:25.92. That got two more points from the Trojans which added up to six total in that event.

Earlier in the meet on Friday night, Lalang came in eighth place in the 10K with a time of 31:44.01. That point was the Trojans' first of the championships.

Francois advanced to the championship round of the 110 hurdles with a third-place finish in Saturday's qualifiers. He finished the race in 14.28 seconds.

In the long jump,
Desmond Gulley just missed scoring, coming in 10th place with a distance of 6.91 meters (22' 8"). Gulley reached that mark on his first jump of the day and followed that with a 6.55-meter leap in his second attempt and a foul on his third.

In the 100,
Terance Goodwin capped his season with a 20th-place finish in a time of 11.11 seconds.
Dylan Wood was 22nd in the 200, crossing the finish line in 21.84 seconds.
Kendrick Dunn was 25th in 22.19 seconds.

Michael Perry ran the 400, coming in 18th with a time of 49.78 seconds.

Through two days, Little Rock is in ninth place overall with seven points.

Action in Lafayette concludes on Sunday with plenty more events for Little Rock. Gulley will participate in the triple jump, Francois will try for a Sun Belt title in the 110 hurdles and Lagat and Lalang will run in the 5K. Little Rock will also see Perry, Wood, Dunn and Francois run in the 4x400 relays.
