Meet Your Trojans: Shanavia Louden

LITTLE ROCK – This week's featured "Meet Your Trojans" student-athlete is senior runner Shanavia Louden, a health education major from Magnolia, Ark.

Little Rock track and field is back just wrapped up competition at the Memphis Invitational last weekend and will be competing at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championship on May 13-15 in Lafayette, La.

What made you decide to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock?
The university is in the capital city. The capital city has a lot of networking opportunities as well as diversity.

What are your favorite things to do in Little Rock?
Finding new places for long runs, just for fun. I also enjoy shopping, trying out new food and walking the river bridge.

What's the best advice you've received?
It would have to be to take care of myself. I know that sounds like a no-brainer. Granted, it is very easy to get caught up in the student-athlete lifestyle.

What advice would you give to children just getting started in athletics?
It's going to hurt a little and that's okay. Sometimes your body will hurt from practice and other times your feelings may be hurt because you made plans for Friday night and now you cannot attend because you have a 6 a.m. practice on Saturday.

What's the best reason people should attend your team's games?
To make our presence more acknowledged. Most of the community does not know that Little Rock has a track and field team. If people would attend and show more support, our presence as a part of this great university would be recognized just as volleyball, soccer, baseball, and basketball. Also, if would give everyone a chance to see how we are united and yet individuals.
