LITTLE ROCK – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Milton Williams and Cross Country/Distance Head Coach
Ray Walker announced the Trojan cross country teams' 2016 schedule on Tuesday, a schedule that features three meets in the state of Arkansas.
Â
Little Rock's 2016 slate is highlighted by the Little Rock Invitational, set to take place at the Rebsamen Golf Course on October 15. That meet will give Trojan fans their best opportunity to witness their student-athletes in action.
Â
The season begins close to home, as the Trojans will head to Memphis, Tenn., for the Brooks Memphis Twilight Invitational on September 3. This will be the third consecutive season that Little Rock has participated in this event.
Â
The Trojans will be even closer to home on September 10, traveling to nearby Conway for the UCA Invitational for their second consecutive Saturday meet.
Â
The team will then have three weeks off to prepare for the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville featuring a competitive field of more than 80 college teams. That meet will take place on October 1.
Â
Two weeks later, the Trojans will host the Little Rock Open at the Rebsamen Golf Course in preparation for the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The league championship race will be held on October 29 in Dothan, Ala., and will be hosted by Troy University.
Â
Little Rock's first non-Saturday meet of the season will be the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday, Nov. 11. The Trojans will face the best teams in the region at that meet with a chance to go to the national championship meet on the line. Little Rock will be in a familiar venue for that, as the meet will be held in Fayetteville on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
The national championship meet will take place on November 19 in Terre Haute, Ind., hosted by Indiana State University.
