DUBAI – Former Trojan
Matias Calderon earned a top-10 finish and was the leading amateur at the Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Open at Al Badia Golf Club. It was Calderons' second event on the MENA Tour.
Â
Calderon placed seventh overall and was the top-finishing amateur. He recorded rounds of 73-68-70 to finish at 5 under par, three strokes back of the individual champion. He totaled 10 birdies in the tournament, including six in his second round.
Â
"I'm very happy with the result," Calderon said. "To be able to win as an amateur and finish in the top 10 including professionals is a very positive result, especially being only my second tournament on the tour."
Â
From Santiago, Chili, Calderon was a two-time All-Sun Belt honoree at Little Rock and twice ranked in the Sun Belt's top-five for score vs. par in a season.
Â
"I'm seeing improvements week after week, which leaves a very positive feeling and makes me feel that I'm going on the right direction. Now I just need to keep working for the next tournaments and give my 100 percent every day to keep improving. But right now, yeah, I'm very happy and excited about what's coming next."
