LITTLE ROCK – The Trojan track and field teams will resume their indoor season this weekend, heading northeast to Jonesboro to take part in the Arkansas State Invitational.

Competition begins on Friday with field events in the early afternoon and a few track disciplines in the evening. The long jumps will be held Friday as will the 200-meter dash, the 5K races and the men's 3K.

On Saturday, action will resume at 11 a.m. with field events including the triple jump. At 11:30, the track heats up with the preliminary races of the 55-meter hurdles and the 55-meter dash. Events are expected to continue throughout the day with the 4x400 relay races closing things out at 5 p.m.

The Little Rock track and field teams last competed in early December on the same course when they took part in the A-State Kickoff Klassic. At that meet, the Trojan women claimed two event wins and posted seven new marks in the school's top-10 lists. The men's squad won two events as well and made three dents in the Trojan top-10 performance list.

This will be the eighth consecutive season that Little Rock has participated in the Arkansas State Invitational. At last year's meet,
Desmond Gulley and
Zodani Francois finished in the top three in their events for the men, and six different Trojan women placed in the top 10.

Last year's meet saw the Trojans compete against athletes from Sun Belt rivals Arkansas State, , Georgia State and Louisiana as well as other Division I schools including Memphis, Central Arkansas, McNeese State and others.

Following this weekend's event, the Trojans will travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the Jaguar Invitational on February 5 for their next meet.
