LITTLE ROCK -Â Little Rock closes out the regular season Friday afternoon at South Alabama as they look to steal a couple spots in the standings going into the conference tournament.
Â
Time Rescheduling:
Due to thunderstorms forecasted in the area, kick-off has been pushed forward from its original start time. The game will now be played at 3:30 p.m.
Â
Last Time Out:
The Trojans are coming off a huge weekend on a Georgia road trip as they got 3-1 victories over both Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
Â
The Trojans and the Eagles were battling for a crucial three points in the conference standings as both teams sat within reaching distance of each other. Little Rock would press the game early earning a series of corner kicks in a row. One would finally find the head of
Quin Wilkes as she would break the game open 1-0 later in the first half. From there the Trojans never looked back.
Lisa Ryan would make the game 2-0 off an interesting second goal, throwing the ball in from the right side and finding its way into the net without touching a single player.
Doro Greulich would ultimately put the game out of reach in the 76th minute after stealing the ball from the defender and chipping the keeper on a breakaway attempt making the game 3-0. The Eagles were too little, too late finding a late goal to cap the game off at 3-1.
Â
The momentum of the win carried right over into the next game versus a struggling Georgia State team. Greulich topped off a monstrous weekend scoring two more goals in the 3-1 victory over the Panther and earned herself Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
Morgan Smocovich would also put on in the net giving her four goals in the previous four-game stretch.
Â
Trojan Report:
The Trojans are currently in fifth place in the Sun Belt Conference with a 4-3-2 record and a 9-7-2 overall on the year. There are only four teams playing this weekend with the first being the Trojans matchup Friday and the other being Georgia Southern versus Troy on Sunday.
Â
South Alabama and Texas State already have earned the one and two spots in tournament. Arkansas State sits in third with 16 points. Right behind them is Troy with 15 points and the Trojans sit in fifth with 14 points. The last team in a spot to move up in the standings is Georgia Southern who are right behind Little Rock with 13 points.
Â
The best seed the Trojans can earn going into the conference tournament is a third seed, and that would involve a win versus the Jags and for Georgia Southern to beat or tie Troy in their rescheduled matchup on Sunday.
Â
If the Trojans were to lose, they would need a tie or win from Troy over Georgia Southern to not slip to the sixth seed. If both Little Rock and Troy were to win, Little Rock would jump up one spot to the four seed for the tournament.
Â
Scouting South Alabama:
South Alabama is looking down at the rest of the conference after already earning the number one seed in the conference tournament with an 8-1-0 record. The Jags have a stingy defense that has allowed six goals in conference play and has scored 17 of their own. Their attack is led behind senior forward Rio Hardy, who leads the conference in goals with twelve while also leading in points, shots and game-winning goals.
Â
Series History:
Little Rock has struggled against South Alabama in the past holding a 5-17-1 record. Its last victory against the Jaguars dates back to 2010, but the Trojans will have the motivation as they fight for seeding in the conference.
