BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Trojan men's track and field team had four top-10 finishes and placed three new times in the Trojans' top-10 history books at the Samford Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
In the 200 on Friday night,
Michael McGruder placed fifth in the field with a time of 21.71 seconds.
Dez Mapps wasn't far behind, taking 11th in 21.93 seconds.
The next day, McGruder and Mapps competed in the 60-meter dash, with McGruder qualifying for the finals with a time of 6.87 seconds in the prelims. Also in the prelims, Mapps ran the race in 6.99 seconds to place 16th. Once in the finals, McGruder turned in a time of 6.89 seconds to finish seventh overall.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Zodani Francois took sixth place in the preliminaries with a time of 8.28 seconds and qualified for the finals. In those finals, Francois was sixth as well, crossing the finish line in 8.36 seconds. Also in the preliminaries,
Antonio Coleman was 18th overall with a time of 8.79 seconds. That time beats his previous best of 8.87 and is the new second-best time in school history.
Travion Clark was Little Rock's top finisher in the 400, taking 18th place in a time of 49.85 seconds. Ch'kilas Calhoun was 26th in 50.30 seconds and
Jaquez Wilson was 29th in 50.54 seconds.
Imad Amenzou had a strong showing in the 800, taking fourth overall with a time of 1:54.95, moving into the top 10 in program history with the new eighth-fastest time in the Little Rock record book.
The 4x400 relay team closed out the night with a seventh-place showing in 3:18.69. Clark, Mapps, McGruder and Wilson combined for the new fifth-fastest time in program history.
Little Rock is back in action on February 20-21 for the Sun Belt Indoor Championship. That event will also be held at the Birmingham Crossplex, the home of Little Rock's last two meets.
