Day 3 Final Results | Day 3 Prelim Results
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Little Rock swimming and diving had a huge night in the pool at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships as the team broke five school records at the University of Iowa Recreation and Wellness Center on Friday.
Â
The first record to fall was in the 100-yard butterfly as
Courtney Coe placed fourth in the A-Final with a time of 55.38. Her time was .19 seconds faster than former Trojan Amber Kelly's time set in 2012. The record held by Kelly was the oldest individual swimming record at Little Rock.
Â
Tori Fryar was next up to break a record in the 200-yard freestyle as she finished the B-Final with a time of 1:51.52. Fryar broke former Trojan Valeriya Teplova's record of 1:51.59 set in 2013 by the narrowest of margins — just .07 of a second. Fryar finished the event 11th overall.
Â
Nuria Gallego Murcia broke her own school record in the B-Final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Gallego Murcia first broke her record with a time of 1:04.45 in the morning's prelim and improved upon her time in the evening's final with a time of 1:04.08. Her previous record of 1:05.13 was set in November at the Kansas Classic. She finished the event 9th overall.
Â
Laura Ruiz Astorga set the final individual record of the day with a time of 56.21 in the 100-yard backstroke in the morning's prelims. She broke former Trojan Kara Raney's record of 56.63 set in 2013. Ruiz Astorga went on to take eighth in the evening's A-Final with a time of 56.49.
Â
With four individual records in the bag, Little Rock decided to take down the 400-yard medley relay record as well. The squad of Ruiz Astorga, Gallego Murcia, Coe and
Emma Doll finished fifth with a time of 3:48.56 — over a second faster than their previous record time set at the Kansas Classic in November.
Â
In the B-Final of the 400-yard individual medley, senior
Jinson Kang finished with a time of 4:30.73 — her second-fastest time of the season and third-fastest time of her career.
