Three Individuals, Two Teams Enter Athletic HOF

LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock Trojan Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed five new members on Friday night at the Jack Stephens Center. Over 200 friends, family and former Trojan lettermen were on hand to celebrate the inductees.
 
Women's basketball star Jocelyn Love ('07), All-American swimmer Ana Tormo ('88), longtime coach and administrator Richard Turner ('75) were inducted as individuals. Little Rock's Sun Belt Champion men's and women's cross country teams from 2001 and 2002 were inducted as teams.
 
"Our university is fortunate to have a storied past with many great teams and individuals that have helped shape Little Rock Athletics over the years," Director of Athletics Chasse Conque said. "The 2017 inductees have certainly left their mark on this department and we are grateful for their many contributions. We are thrilled to honor this year's class who join an elite group of past inductees."
 
The Little Rock men's cross country team won back-to-back Sun Belt Championships in 2001 and 2002. The Trojans went on to place 12th at the 2001 NCAA South Central Regional in College Station, Texas, and seventh at the 2002 NCAA South Central Regional in Waco, Texas. Brent Corbitt placed ninth at the 2002 NCAA South Central Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championship.
 
Corbitt won the 2002 Sun Belt Championship as an individual was a five-time Sun Belt Runner of the Week over the course of his Little Rock career.
 
The Trojans' women's cross country team also repeated as conference champs in 2001 and 2002. The teams picked up seventh and fifth-place finishes at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in 2001 and 2002, respectively. Leah Thorvilson was Little Rock's top finisher at both regionals, including an 11th-place finish in 2002.
 
Thorvilson also won the 2002 Sun Belt Championship as an individual. She totaled three Sun Belt Runner of the Week honors in her Trojan tenure.
 
Between both teams, 14 Trojans earned All-Sun Belt honors over the two-year span. Head coach Kirk Elias was the league's Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2002.
 
Jocelyn Love's name can still be found all over the Little Rock women's basketball record book, as she was one of the first stars of the team in the Joe Foley era. While a Trojan, she became the team's all-time leading scorer with 1,495 points, and she currently remains fourth all-time in career points, third in career scoring average, fifth in field goals made, second in 3-point field goals made, third in 3-point percentage, fourth in field goals made, 11th in assists and fifth in steals.
 
A First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District member as well as a Chancellor's List and Sun Belt Commissioner's List member, Love graduated magna cum laude in 2007. She went on to become an assistant coach for the Trojans under Joe Foley for four years from 2008-2012.
 
Ana Tormo won two individual NAIA national championships in her time with the Trojans, both in the 200 butterfly. The NAIA national record holder in that event, Tormo left Little Rock with five school records. Tormo was named an All-American from 1985-88 and also earned Academic All-American recognition in 1987 and 1988. Now a Director of Foundation Relations for the Global Gift Foundation, Tormo earned her degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in International Studies in 1988.
 
Richard Turner has decades of experience with Little Rock athletics, beginning with his time as a student-athlete for the Trojan water polo and swimming teams in the 1970s. As a Trojan student-athlete, Turner earned two school records as an individual while also picking up four more as part of relay teams.
 
Turner became the head coach of the Trojan men's water polo team in 1982 and also began coaching swimming and diving in 1983. He coached three women's swimming All-Americans and two water polo All-Americans in his 24 years as the Trojans' leader while also helping the water polo team to seven NCAA regionals.
 
Turner retired from coaching following the 2006-07 season to work full-time in his current role with the Trojans as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Support. Turner was inducted in the Arkansas Swimming Hall of Fame in 1994.
