CONWAY – Little Rock had two event victories and three new top-10 times in program history at the UCA Spring Open at Hendrix College on Friday night.
Bless Dupeh won the 100-meter dash, getting her year off to an excellent start. Dupeh finished in 12.48 seconds, just edging out Robyn Byrd of Arkansas Baptist by .01 seconds. Little Rock had two more top-five finishers in the race as
Christina Nickerson was third in 12.76 seconds and
Brittney Anderson was fifth in 12.89 seconds.
The Trojans had another winner in the 800.
Akeia Joyner opened her outdoor season with a time of 2:22.75, beating out the second-place finisher by nearly two full seconds.
Jasmine Blunt took third overall but was second among collegiate runners with a time of 2:26.71.
Arbonay Hill-Bess had a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles, racing to a second-place finish in a time of 15.38 seconds. That time immediately becomes the new eighth-best time in program history.
Another second-place showing came from
Eboni Smith in the 400. Smith just missed winning the race by seven-tenths of a second, finishing on 58.54 seconds. Little Rock had a sixth-place finish from
Jessica Gray in the 400 as well. Gray just missed breaking the one-minute mark, finishing in 1:00.35.
Brittany Pinder-Jones was 21st in the 400 with a time of 1:05.54.
Adela Hernandez placed seventh in the 1500, coming across the finish line in 5:04.27.
In the field events,
Nicole Edison was sixth in the long jump while
Tyra Gillam took eighth. Edison reached 5.28 meters (17' 4"), tying her for the seventh-best distance in program history. She reached that mark on her second jump of the competition. Gillam, meanwhile, reached 5.03 meters (16' 6"), setting a new personal best outdoors and improving on her eighth-best time in team history.
The Trojans will next compete at the Rhodes Invitational on March 17-18 in Memphis, Tenn.
