Meet Your Trojans: Ryan Pippins

LITTLE ROCK – A freshman on the men's basketball team, Ryan Pippins is the subject of this week's Meet Your Trojans. Born and raised in Little Rock, Pippins attended Parkview High School where he was an All-State and All-Conference selection as a senior.

A Health Science major, Pippins appeared in 12 games as a freshman. He played a season-high 14 minutes in the Trojans' season opener vs. Central Baptist. He logged 10 minutes at home against the University of the Ozarks on Nov. 14 and at Florida on Dec. 21.

What made you decide to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock?

Coach Wes Flanigan and Chris Beard. They used to tell me they wanted me to come play here. It's also nice to be able to play for the city and give back to the city.

What are your favorite things to do in Little Rock?

I really don't do much but play basketball, watch TV, or go to the mall with some of my friends. I might chill with my family on the weekends.

What is the best part of being a Trojan?

I would say when we all come together, like when we had the athletic talent show. That was pretty interesting and fun.

What is something most people do not know about you?

I like playing video games. When I don't have anything to do, or after our workouts, I'll play video games.

Who is the athlete you most admire?

Allen Iverson. I admire him most because of his attitude toward the game, his heart and his confidence.

What is the earliest memory you have of participating in your sport?

I would probably say my first dunk. I think I was in ninth or tenth grade.

What is the best advice you have received?

Something my dad always told me, "Just don't worry about it. Just keep pushing and everything will be okay and stuff will happen your way."

Who was your childhood hero?

I would say the Power Rangers. I used to watch them all the time.

What advice would you give to children just getting started in athletics?

Stay focused. If you want to go for it, go for it. Don't let anyone try to ruin what you are trying to do. Just stay focused and go for your dreams.

What is the most interesting thing you have learned recently?

I didn't know my truck was a front wheel drive. I thought it was back, but my friends told me it's a front wheel.

What is your favorite home-cooked meal?

Probably my auntie's yams. I love them; they are really good.

What community service have you done since being a member of the Trojans?

I recently went to the Arkansas Foodbank, and I have been to a few elementary schools, too.

What does Little Rock's GRIT Mission Statement mean to you? (Greatness, Respect, Integrity, Teamwork)

Really just being tough, smart and respectful. It means a lot.

What is the best reason people should attend your team's games?

We have new players coming in and we are going to work our butts off for next season.
