MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Trojan men's track and field team had two event victories, two second-place finishes and nine top-five finishes at the Memphis Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Little Rock earned its first win of the weekend in the first event on Saturday. The 4x100 relay team finished the race in 41.16 seconds, beating second-place Arkansas State by .55 seconds.
McGruder later took third in the 100-meter dash, racing to a time of 10.44 seconds.
Kendrick Dunn finished 10th in 10.78 seconds, setting a new personal best. Ch'kilas Calhoun was 12th in 10.82 seconds,
Tre' James was 24th in 11.12 seconds,
Cory Martin was 28th in 11.33 seconds and
Terance Goodwin was 29th in 11.38 seconds.
Zodani Francois gave the Trojans their second victory of the weekend in the 110 hurdles, coming across the finish line in 14.54 seconds to win the race by 0.2 seconds.
Antonio Coleman was fifth in 15.12 seconds, setting a new personal best by 0.14 seconds.
Toward the end of the meet,
Isaac Lalang took second place in the 3K steeplechase, becoming the first Trojan to run that race this season. Lalang's time of 9:31.55 was a mere 12 seconds behind the first-place finisher but was enough to put him comfortably in second place by 18 seconds.
The 800-meter race saw Kennedy Chumba placed fourth overall with a time of 1:56.21.
Kenneth Broyles came in 34th in 2:10.52.
Chumba also ran the 1500 on Friday evening, setting a new personal record in the event with a second-place finish of 3:53.18. The senior's time was also a new top-10 mark in program history, moving him up to eighth all-time as a Trojan.
Emilio Medina finished eighth in 4:03.23 and
Imad Amenzou was 19th in 4:10.28.
The Trojans ended the meet with a fourth-place showing in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:16.85. That time just missed being a top-10 time in program history.
In the long jump on Friday evening,
Desmond Gulley took fifth place with a distance of 6.95 meters.
In the 400,
Travion Clark let the way for Little Rock with an 11th-place finish in 49.51 seconds.
Dez Mapps was right behind him with a time of 49.56 seconds for 12th place.
Ch'kilas Calhoun was the lone Trojan competitor in the 200, racing to a 16th-place finish in 22.41 seconds.
With the regular season now complete, Little Rock will have two weeks off before the Sun Belt Outdoor Championship on May 12-14. That three-day meet will be held on the campus of UT Arlington.
