LITTLE ROCK – After a tough road trip this past weekend, the Trojan soccer team looks to bounce back with a home-heavy stretch, beginning Tuesday night against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Opening draw against the Golden Lions is set for 7 p.m. at the Coleman Sports Complex.
Little Rock (3-4) enters Tuesday's game on a two-game skid, falling at Murray State 4-3 in overtime Friday, followed by a 3-0 setback at Austin Peay Sunday. The loss to the Racers came in spite of a hat trick from sophomore
Doro Greulich, including a pair of goals within four minutes of each other in the second half to tie the match at 3-3. Murray State scored the game-winner less than a minute into the overtime stanza to thwart the Trojan comeback.
Sunday, the Trojans and Austin Peay battled to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes before three second half goals by the Govenors put the game out of reach. Little Rock held the advantage in both shots (18-16) and corners (11-4) but were unable to find the back of the net.
Tuesday's game will be the 10th all-time meeting between Little Rock and UAPB (0-4) as the Trojans have won six-straight in the series, including last season's 6-2 victory at the Coleman Sports Complex. Head coach
Adrian Blewitt is 4-0 against the Golden Lions with the Trojans outscoring their in-state foe 25-3 during his tenure.
UAPB is seeking its first victory of the season, sitting at 0-4 on the year after losses to Lamar (3-0) and Stetson (6-1) at the UT-Rio Grande Valley tournament last weekend. Allison Herrin leads the team with two points, scoring the Golden Lions' lone goal of the season, with Rebecca Holmes posting a team-best five shots with an assist.
For Little Rock, Greulich leads the squad and ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in both goals (five) and points (11), while ranking second on the team with 16 shots (11 on goal).
Quin Wilkes leads the team with 19 total shots, followed by 13 from Arola Aparicio Gill and 11 from
Jaclyn Purvine. Purvine is second on the team in points with five (two goals, one assist) with Aparacio Gill adding four points (one goal, two assists).
The Coleman Sports Complex has been kind to the home team thus far this season as Little Rock is a perfect 3-0 on its home field. That advantage could come into play in a crucial time as the Trojans play five of their next six games at home, starting Sun Belt Conference play against Louisiana Sunday at 1 p.m.
