SPRINGVILLE, Utah – Little Rock closed out its first tournament of 2017-18 with a seventh-place finish at the Hobble Creek Classic. The Trojans posted a 23-over 307 through the final 18 holes, closing out the 54-hole event with a 49-over 901.
Entering the day in fifth place among the 12-team field, Little Rock added 13 strokes to its second round total, slipping two spots in the final standings. The Trojans finished five shots back of sixth-place Northern Colorado (44-over 896), sitting two shots better than eighth-place Weber State (51-over 903).
Senior
Sabrina Bonanno led the Trojans with an 8-over 221, tying for 10th among the individual standings after a 6-over 77 Tuesday. The performance marks the seventh top-10 showing of Bonanno's career, highlighted by an even-par 71 in round two.
Two other Little Rock golfers finished among the top-20 as senior
Shania Berger and junior
Emelie Blennow tied for 16th at 10-over 223. Blennow turned in the low round of the day for the Trojans with a 3-over 74 while Berger carded a 7-over 78.
Junior
Lucy Owen finished with a 7-over 78 in round three, tying for 52nd overall with a 23-over 236, four shots better than sophomore
Thea Wakeford-Wesmann's 27-over 240. Senior
Pernille Orlien posted a 30-over 243 competing as an individual.
New Mexico State rallied to capture the team title with a 14-over 866, overcoming a two-stroke deficit to defeat Oral Roberts (17-over 869) by three shots. Host Utah Valley (28-over 880) surged the round's low score of 4-over 288 to finish third with Sam Houston State and Grand Canyon tying for fourth at 39-over 891.
Little Rock will look to build off the season-opening performance as the Trojans return to action this weekend, traveling to Manhattan, Kansas for the 2017 Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational. Hosted by Kansas State, the event will be held September 17-19 at Colbert Hills Golf Club.
