MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Looking to defend its title from 2016, Little Rock raced out to a convincing lead after round one, then saw Middle Tennessee pull even in round two as the pair sit atop the leaderboard at 1-over 577 through the first two rounds of the Memphis Intercollegiate.
Little Rock made a statement in the opening round of the season, showing the reigning champions had every intention of bringing home the trophy for the second-straight year. The Trojans registered a 6-under 282, the third-lowest round in the history of the tournament, racing out to a five-stroke lead on second-place Middle Tennessee (1-under 287).
The low round was paced by
George Scanlon, who ended round one tied for first overall with a 5-under 67. Beginning on hole six, Scanlon birdied holes seven, eight and nine, followed by a bogey on hole 10. The junior regrouped with birdies on holes 11 and 12 to sit at 4-under after seven holes, then remained steady to register the career-low 67.

Tiago Lobo competing as an individual, with sophomore
Danial Durisic closing out the Little Rock scorecard with a 3-over 75.
In round two, however, Little Rock added some crucial shots over the final nine holes, falling into the tie with Middle Tennessee after 36 holes. After leading by as many as eight shots in the afternoon round, the Trojans added 13 shots to their first round total, shooting a 7-over 295, while the Blue Raiders' 2-over 290 pulled them even with 18 holes to play.
Scanlon continues to lead Little Rock, notching an even-par 72 in round two and sits in sole possession of second place with a 5-under 139, one shot back of the tournament leader. Lobo is tied for sixth with a 2-under 142, turning in a team-best 2-under 70 as an individual in round two, while Pate registered a 1-under 71 and is tied for 11th overall at 1-under 143.
Ramos sits among the individual top-20 as well, tied for 20th overall at 3-over 147 following a 3-over 75 in the afternoon round. Warren (6-over 150) and Durisic (8-over 152) closed out the Trojan scorecard, posting a 79 and 77, respectively.
With 18 holes to play, the Trojans and Blue Raiders hold a four-stroke lead on host Memphis following the Tigers' 5-over 581 Monday. Western Kentucky (7-over 583) and Georgetown (8-over 584) round out the top-five.
Little Rock will tee off among the final groupings Tuesday, playing with Middle Tennessee and Memphis over the final 18 holes. The Trojans begin their day at 9:45 a.m. with Durisic's tee time off hole one, going off in nine-minute increments until Scanlon's 10:21 a.m. start.
