MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the second time in as many weeks, senior
Sabrina Bonanno finished among the individual top-10, tying for fifth at the 2017 Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas. Bonanno finished at 5-over 221, including a 2-over 74 in round three, leading Little Rock to a seventh-place showing in its second event of the season.
Following her 2-under 70 in round two, Bonanno responded with a 2-over 74 over the final 18 holes, finishing tied for fifth among the 51-player field. After tying for 10th at last week's Hobble Creek Classic, Bonanno now has eight career top-10 finishes with the 221 going down as the second-lowest 54-hole total of her Trojan career.
Two other Little Rock golfers finished among the individual top-20, including junior
Emelie Blennow placing 13th with an 8-over 224. Blennow carded a season-best 1-over 73 over the final round and registers the fourth top-20 showing as a Trojan.
Senior
Shania Berger joined Blennow in the top-20, placing 16th after carding an 11-over 227. Berger had the low round of the day for Little Rock, shooting an even-par 72, earning her 11th career top-20 showing.
Sophomore
Thea Wakeford-Wesmann finished with a 30-over 246 while junior
Lucy Owen shot a 43-over 259 as the duo posted an 81 and 87, respectively, over Tuesday's final round.
Little Rock held serve in the number seven spot, posting a 12-over 300 over the final 18 holes to finish at 54-over 918. The Trojans were 14 shots better than eighth-place Central Arkansas (68-over 932) while finishing 10 shots back of sixth-place Arkansas State (44-over 908).
Host Kansas State took the team title with a 17-over 881, doubling up runner-up rival Kansas' 34-over 898. Tulsa (35-over 899) placed third with Rutgers (40-over 904) and North Texas (42-over 906) rounding out the top-five.
With two tournaments already in the books, Little Rock head right back out on the course next week, traveling to Greenville, South Carolina for the Pirate Collegiate Classic. Hosted by East Carolina, the event will be held Monday, September 25 and Tuesday, September 26 at Greenville Country Club.
