Little Rock Heads To Colorado For Mark Simpson Invite

Little Rock will compete in its second tournament of 2017-18, heading west to the Rocky Mountains for the 2017 Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational September 25 and 26.

Tournament Information
The 2017 Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by Colorado, will be held September 25-26 at Colorado National Golf Course, a par-72, 7,676-yard course in Erie, Colorado. The 54-hole event will be played over the course of two days, beginning with the opening two rounds, starting with a 9:15 a.m. CT shotgun start on Monday, September 25. The final 18 holes will be held on Tuesday, September 26 with a 9:15 a.m. CT start time. Live scoring of the event will be available at Golfstat.com.

Tournament Field
Little Rock will be one of 19 teams competing in this week's Mark Simpson Invitational, comprising a challenging field. The Trojans, ranked 102nd, are one of six teams that finished among the GolfStat top-110 in 2016-17, including host Colorado (No. 42), Oregon State (No. 75), Wyoming (No. 104), Utah (No. 106) and Seattle (No. 109). Eight other teams are among the top-200, comprised of Utah State (No. 132), Northern Colorado (No. 143), Wofford (No. 144), Cal State-Northridge (No. 150), Loyola-Marymont (No. 180), Utah Valley (No. 181), Air Force (No. 192) and Houston Baptist (No. 194), with Idaho, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UT-Rio Grande Valley and Weber State rounding out the field.

Trojan Lineup
After a strong showing to the 2017-18 season, head coach Jake Harrington will field another young but talented squad, comprised of two juniors, a sophomore and a pair of freshmen.

Last Time Out
Little Rock opened the 2017-18 season with a third-place finish at the Memphis Intercollegiate, shooting an 8-over 872. The Trojans raced out to an impressive start with a 6-under 282 in round one and were tied for first following 36 holes. Little Rock was led by junior George Scanlon and freshman Tiago Lobo, each of which posted a 1-under 215 on the event, including a 5-under 67 by Scanlon in round one. In all the Trojans combined for nine rounds of par or better, including a 2-under 70 from Lobo in round two.

Hitting the Ground Running
After losing a handful of experienced seniors in 2016-17, Little Rock took to the course with a roster full of underclassmen last week in Memphis, including four players who made their Trojan debuts. Junior transfers Justin Warren and George Scanlon and freshmen Tiago Lobo and Aaron Ramos each suited up for the first time for Little Rock and will compete for the Trojans this week as well. Sophomores Logan Pate and Danial Durisic were the lone returners as Pate just missed a top-20 finish, tying 21st with a 4-over 220.

Looking Ahead
Following this week's trip to Colorado, Little Rock will have a week off before returning to action in Texas, competing in the Bayou City Invitational. Hosted by the University of Houston, the event will take place October 9-10 at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland.
