Aaron Ramos, Little Rock ties for eighth among the challenging 20-team field at the 2017 Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. The Trojans finished the 54-hole event one shot over par, posting an 865 for the two-day event.
After shooting 1-over through the first 36 holes, Ramos carded the low round of the final round for Little Rock with a 2-under 70, finishing at 1-under 215. After bogeying hole four, his first of the day, Ramos birdied 12, 13 and 18 while adding 14 pars to finish tied for 24th among the 105-player field.
Fellow freshman
Tiago Lobo shot a 1-over 73 over the final round to finish at 1-over 217, tying for 34th overall, registering three birdies and 12 pars over the final 18 holes. He finished one shot ahead of junior
George Scanlon's 2-over 218 after Scanlon registered an even-par 72 Tuesday.
Sophomore
Logan Pate added to a consistent Trojan showing with a 3-over 219, shooting a 2-over 74 over the final round. Junior
Justin Warren added a 1-over 73 to finish at 4-over 220 for the tournament, giving Little Rock an impressive presence in the mountains of Colorado.
After beginning the day at even-par, Little Rock maintained its position thanks largely to a strong showing on the par-four holes. The Trojans finished the event third among the 20-team field at 3-under on the par-4s, posting a 3.98 average. Little Rock led all schools with 198 total pars for the event, 12 better than Wyoming, who finished third overall.
Little Rock's even-par showing was two shots better than ninth-place Northern Colorado's 2-over 866 and one shot back of Utah State, who placed seventh at 1-under 863. The Trojans missed a top-five showing by four strokes, finishing four shots back of fifth-place Oregon State (4-under 860) and three shots back of sixth-place Air Force (3-under 861).
Utah and host Colorado tied for the team title at 22-under 842 with the Utes capturing the trophy on a playoff hole. Wyoming (18-under 846) finished third with UC Riverside (6-under 858) and the Beavers rounding out the top-five.
Little Rock will have a week off before returning to action, this time in the Lone Star state. The Trojans will head to Pearland, Texas, competing in the Bayou City Invitational October 9-10.
