2017 Pirate Collegiate Classic Final Results
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Little Rock closed out the Pirate Collegiate Classic with a 14th-place finish, shooting a 69-over 933. The Trojans registered their best effort over the final round, shooting an 18-over 306 and moving up two spots in the team rankings.
The effort was led by senior
Sabrina Bonanno, who registered a top-20 finish for the third time in 2017-18. Bonanno closed out the event with a 2-over 74 in round three, compiling a 7-over 223 to tie for 15th among the 89-player field. For Bonanno, she now has 16 top-20 showings during her Little Rock career and leads the team with a 73.89 average.
Junior
Emelie Blennow finished second on the Trojan scorecard with a 15-over 231, posting a 3-over 75 for the second-straight round and tying for 37th. She was 10 shots better than senior
Pernille Orlien, who carded a season-low 75 in round three and tied for 73rd with a 25-over 241.
Junior
Lucy Owen and sophomore
Thea Wakeford-Wesmann rounded out the Trojan scorecard, shooting an 82 and 87, respectively, over the final 18 holes. Owen posted a 26-over 242 while Wakeford-Wesmann added a 34-over 250.
Beginning the day in 16th, Little Rock shot its best round of the week in Greenville, jumping two spots to finish 14th. The Trojans finished just four shots back of a 10th-place finish as Charleston Southern (65-over 929), Appalachian State (66-over 930), William and Mary (67-over 931), UNC Asheville (68-over 932) and Little Rock closed out the event within four strokes of each other.
Host East Carolina captured the team title with a 1-over 865, including a 2-under 286 over the final 18 holes, besting second-place Western Kentucky (14-over 878) by 13 shots. Towson (22-over 886) finished third with Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama (26-over 890) and Winthrop (36-over 900) rounding out the top-five.
After playing in three tournaments in three different time zones over the past three weeks, Little Rock will return to the course next week to close out the busy start to the 2017-18 season. The Trojans will head north to Columbia, Missouri, competing in the Johnie Imes Invitational October 2-4.
