IOWA CITY, Iowa – In the final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, Little Rock swimming and diving broke four more school records while also medaling in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The next record to fall in another big weekend for Little Rock was in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of
Imre van Huyssteen,
Regan Lawrence,
Laura Ruiz Astorga and
Emma Doll medaled with a third-place finish and a time of 3.26.03 — 1.12 seconds faster than the previous record.
Fryar had a big evening in the pool as she took a fourth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, breaking her 1000-yard record at the split with a time of 10:12.08 and then breaking the 1,650-yard time at 16:56.21. The split time edged out her own previous record by over eight seconds while her 1,650 time was 8.98 seconds faster than also her own previous record.
Laura Ruiz Astorga broke another record, taking down her previous 200-yard backstroke time of 2:03.14 with a fifth-place finish time of 2:01.47.
Samantha Gray finished eighth in the A-Final of the three-meter dive. She finished the event with a score of 204.15.
Emma Doll finished eighth in the A-Final with a time of 51.63 — less than half a second off the school record. In the B-Final,
Imre van Huyssteen and
Regan Lawrence finished third and fourth earning them 11th and 12th overall in the event.
Ginger Bryant took a first-place finish in the B-Final with a time of 2:19.81 and earning a ninth-place finish overall while
Palmer Ristroph finished 11th overall with a time of 2:22.72.
For her great performance over the course of the championships, Fryar was named to the All-MVC First Team in the 500-yard freestyle. Gray, Ruiz Astorga, Doll and van Huyssteen were all named All-MVC Honorable Mentions for their performances.
As a team, Little Rock finished the MVC Championships in sixth place with a final score of 363.5 points. Missouri State won the conference championship with a score of 799. Southern Illinois was the runner-up with 672.5 points while Northern Iowa took third with 487.5 points. Indiana State took fourth with 477 points, and Illinois State came in fifth with 365 points. Evansville finished in seventh with 225 points and Valparaiso would come in eighth with 110 in their MVC Championship debut.
Although the Trojans' 2017-18 team schedule is complete, diver
Samantha Gray has qualified to compete at the NCAA Diving Zone D Championship taking place March 5-7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
