Trojans Set to Host 2018 Little Rock Open on Saturday

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock's track and field squads will host the 2018 Little Rock Open on Saturday at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex. Originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the entire meet will now take place on Saturday due to the threat of inclement weather on Friday.
 
The meet will begin with field events at 11 a.m. The women's and men's 5k will get the day's track events started at 12 p.m. This year's seniors will be recognized at 1:30 p.m. before field and track events resume at 2 p.m.
 
Teams scheduled to compete against the Trojans include Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Harding, Hendrix, Jackson State, LeMoyne-Owen and UAPB. In total, 38 events will take place.
 
This will be Little Rock's fifth consecutive year hosting a meet at the Coleman Complex.
 

• Charles Okeze enters the weekend with back-to-back Sun Belt Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors.
• Okeze is currently qualified for the NCAA West Regional with the 15th-best 200-meter time (20.99) and the 29th-best 100-meter time (10.51) in the region.
• Two-time Sun Belt Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the week Shanieke Watson is currently qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as her time of 10:44.66 ranks 33rd in the region.
• The NCAA West Region's top 48 individuals in each event will qualify for the regional while the top 24 relay teams will advance.

 
After this weekend, Little Rock will make the short trip up to Conway for the UCA Open on April 13-14.
