SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 2018 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships got off to a good start for Little Rock's men's team on Friday night at Texas State.

Charles Okeze won his heat of the 200-meter prelim with a time of 20.83 seconds and advanced to Sunday's final with the third-fastest mark.
Travion Clark finished 14th in 21.34 seconds while
Ch'kilas Calhoun was 22nd in 21.51 seconds.
Emmanuel Olie was 29th in 22.24 seconds.

Jaelon Gossett set a personal record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.12 seconds. His time was the eighth-fastest in program history and was 1.17 seconds faster than his previous best.

In the 1500-meter prelim,
Emilio Medina was Little Rock's top finisher as he placed 20th with a time of 4:09.18.Â
Jarred O'Connor finished 22nd in 4:16.60.

After five of the 10 scheduled decathlon events,
Max Holzmueller sat in eighth place with a score of 3,489 points. Holzmueller set a personal record in the long jump with a mark of 6.75 meters and finished fifth. He then put up another PR in the high jump by finishing sixth with a mark of 1.91 meters — the fourth-best mark in program history. He was eighth in the 400-meter dash at 51.64 seconds, 10th in the shot put with a mark of 11.12 meters and 13th in the 100-meter dash at 11.67 seconds. Holzmueller is now 2,486 points shy of Daniel Caradine's school record of 5,975 points.

The Sun Belt Outdoor Championships will continue on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the decathlon. Little Rock's men will also compete in the 400-meter prelim, the 100-meter prelim and the 800-meter prelim. Live coverage of the day's track events will begin at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
