LITTLE ROCK – All five of Little Rock's women's golf competitors this past season were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars Team, announced Monday by the organization. It marks the fourth time in the last five seasons the Trojans have had five golfers recognized with the honor.
The list was highlighted by senior
Sabrina Bonanno, who capped her Trojan career with her fourth WGCA All-America Scholar honor after earning her degree this past May. Junior
Emelie Blennow earned the third honor of her Little Rock career with junior
Lucy Owen making her second appearance. Senior
Pernille Orlien and sophomore
Thea Wakeford-Wesmann were first time honorees.
It is a fitting end to the season as the five golfers comprised Little Rock's competition roster for nearly the entire season, accounting for the Trojans' five competitors in nine of 11 tournaments this season. As a team, the Trojans boast a cumulative GPA of 3.70, including a 3.69 during the spring semester, as all five hold a cumulative GPA of 3.53 or better.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics as a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher is required, along with playing in a significant portion of events during the year.
Founded in 1983, the WGCA is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing its members and the student-athletes they represent.
