Trojans Set Department Record, Raising $4.3 Million

LITTLE ROCK – Another strong competition season for Little Rock Athletics was matched by a successful fundraising year in 2017-18 as the Trojans set a new department milestone, raising $4.3 million during the 2017-18 academic year.

"Private support continues to be a driving force behind the growth of Trojan Athletics," said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque. "I am most grateful to our loyal supporters for their commitment to our student-athletes as we continue to position athletics to advance the mission of our university."

The $4.3 million raised more than doubles the previous department high of just over $2 million, raised in 2016-17. It marks the third-straight year contributions have exceeded the million dollar mark as the department has raised over $9 million over the past four seasons. Giving has increased in each of the last four seasons, beginning with the $940,000 raised in 2014-15.

A good portion of the amount raised came on the heels of the announcement of the addition of a Division I wrestling program, highlighted by a $1.4 million pledge from Little Rock businessman and youth sports advocate Greg Hatcher. Another successful SpectacUALR in 2017 brought in over $200,000 as individual donations also accounted for a significant portion of funds raised.

The funds raised go directly to supporting the nearly 200 Trojan student-athletes, helping provide them the resources, funding and opportunities to represent Little Rock across the department's now 15 intercollegiate athletic programs.

"This record year of giving is allowing us to invest in the student-athlete experience, provide support for our coaches as well as fund much-needed capital projects," said Conque. "With this level of community support, I am confident our best days are still ahead."
