ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Paul Bianchi is headed to day two of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships after defeating #13 Zach Redding from Iowa State, checking off yet another first for the Little Rock wrestling program. The redshirt senior will wrestle for the Trojans in Consolation Round 2 of the 133-pound bracket at 10 a.m. CT tomorrow morning.
"Great way to finish the day for Paul," said proud head coach
Neil Erisman. "He continues to set the bar higher for our program every time he steps on the mat and is doing a great job of staying in the moment and being tough. We are proud of him and excited for tomorrow's matches!"
Bianchi showed up to Session 2 seeking vengeance after dropping his First Round bout by technical fall to #4 Austin DeSanto from Iowa, 19-4. From the moment the Trojan stepped onto the mat in the evening, he controlled the entire match, not allowing a single Iowa State takedown. Bianchi pulled ahead with three takedowns in the first period, added another in the second, and racked up nearly three minutes of riding time en route to the 9-4 decision. The upset victory marked his third ranked win of the season.
