May 30, 2003
UALR graduate Jason
Lanier has been hired as administrative assistant for men's basketball,
head coach Steve Shields announced today.
"Jason has been
around here for a while and knows how to get things done on campus,"
Shields said.
Lanier graduated
from UALR with a marketing degree in 2002. He is founder and head
instructor of In the Zone, a clinic for children ages 6 to 18 that helps
develop individual basketball skills. Lanier is also a certified
basketball official with more than 300 AAU, middle school and high school
games under his belt.
Lanier, a graduate
of Little Rock Hall High School, also graduated from Pulaski Technical
College in 2000.
"I'm excited to
be working alongside these coaches," Lanier said of Shields and his
assistants, Kevin Fricke, Joe Harge and the newly-hired Brad Autry.
"I feel that we have a great staff."
At UALR, Lanier's
duties will include overseeing player study hall, team travel, video
exchange and other day-to-day office operations of the basketball program,
Shields said.
"I'm looking
forward to working with the players we already have, and we have a good
group of guys coming in," Lanier said. "I think we're going to
have a good year in the Sun Belt."
