Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. ? Junior Jeremie Davis scored a career-high 27 points on Thursday night to lead New Orleans to a 69-60 win over Arkansas-Little Rock at the Chamber of Horrors. The loss was the Trojans fourth straight in league play and drops the team to .500 for the first time since Dec. 5th.
UALR (13-13, 5-8 Sun Belt) made a season-low five trips to the free-throw line, while the Privateers went 16-of-18 at the charity stripe (88.9 percent). UNO took a slim four-point lead in to the intermission, but shot 52.2 percent in the second half and rode 18 second-half points from Davis to the win.
The Trojans enjoyed a 31-27 edge on the glass but attempted 21 shots from beyond the arc (hitting only seven). Freshman Lekheythan Malone led the team with 13 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting.
UNO took a four-point lead in to the break, 25-21, after scoring 18 points in the paint over the first 20 minutes (12 of which came on dunks and layups). The Privateers shot 45.8 percent in the first half, while limiting the Trojans to 36.0 percent.
The Trojans rattled off seven unanswered points at the onset of the game, capped off by a three pointer by senior Elijah Muldrow. UALR held a six-point lead, 11-5, after a putback by junior Byron Ray, but the Privateers answered with a 10-0 run to go ahead 15-11.
A pair of buckets by Malone, who scored eight of the team's 21 points in the half, evened the score at 15-all. UNO responded with another run, this time a 10-2 spurt to go on top 25-17. Davis scored the final two baskets of the run and combined with Shawn Malloy to score 14 of the Privateers' 25 points.
Junior Rashad Jones-Jennings scored the first two buckets of the second half to even the score at 25-all, but the Privateers used a 9-2 spurt (with six points from Jamie McNeilly) to extend their lead back to seven, 34-27.
UALR worked its way back in to the contest behind a three-point play by Jones-Jennings, off a two-hand monster dunk, and a three pointer by junior Zack Wright, which made it a 39-35 ballgame. Davis took over at that point, scoring UNO's next eight points (with two three pointers) to put his team back on top by 10, 47-37. The Trojans never threatened again, as UNO went 15-of-17 from the free-throw line in the second half (88.2 percent).
Jones-Jennings finished with 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while Wright added 10 and five boards to the Trojans' cause. Muldrow came up with a game-high four steals in the loss.
The Trojans return to action on Saturday when they welcome Louisiana-Lafayette to the Jack Stephens Center for the team's regular-season finale. The game will be televised by ESPN+ with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
