Box Score LOS ANGELES ? The UALR men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on Monday night with a 71-40 victory over Loyola Marymount at Gersten Pavilion. The outcome was never in question, as the Trojans opened the game on a 12-0 run and never led by less than 10 points the rest of the way.
UALR shot 53.1 percent for the game, while the Lions connected on just 21.2 percent of their shots, committed 23 turnovers and were outrebounded 43-30. The Trojans took a comfortable 22-point lead into the break, which could have been even bigger if not for 14 first-half turnovers.
Junior Shane Edwards went 7-of-12 from the field en route to a game-high 14 points. Juniors John Fowler and De'Andre Eggins followed with 12 points a piece, making a 10th-consecutive double-figure scoring game for Eggins.
UALR enjoyed a 43-30 edge on the glass and racked up 17 assists on its 26 made field goals, thanks in large part to the efforts of junior Brandon Patterson, who racked up game highs of nine rebounds and five assists.
The Trojans overcame 14 first-half turnovers by shooting 57.1 percent from the floor, while holding the Lions to a meager 5-of-23 effort (21.7 percent). UALR scored the first 12 points of the game out of the gate, the last six of which came compliments of Edwards, and never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.
Leading 17-7, the Trojans put together a 16-2 run, including 12 unanswered points, to take their largest lead of the half ? 33-9 with 1:11 remaining.
LMU's offensive shortcomings prevented the Lions from mounting a comeback in the second half, as the home team hit on just 6-of-29 attempts over the final 20 minutes. LMU did not have a single player score in double figures, as Tim Diederichs led the team with nine points in the losing effort.
UALR returns to Little Rock for three-consecutive games at the Jack Stephens Center, beginning with a meeting with UT Arlington on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
