Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. ? Louisiana-Lafayette's Danny Farquhar struck out 12 batters and scattered four hits over 8.0 innings to lead the Ragin' Cajuns (36-13, 19-6) to a 13-3 win over UALR (20-27, 8-16) Friday night at M.L. Tigue Moore Field. ULL broke open a 2-2 tie game by scoring 11 runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Scott Hawkins and Matt Hicks each drove in three runs in the win, with Hawkins going 3-for-4 with two home runs to bring his season total to 15. Hawkins and Hicks were two of four Ragin' Cajuns to total three hits on the night, helping Farquhar improved to 5-3 on the season. ULL's sophomore hurler struck out 12 batters and held the Trojans to four hits, two runs and two walks over 8.0 innings of work.
UALR's defense matched its season high with five errors in the loss, helping junior David Klumpp fall to 4-5 on the year. Klumpp allowed 11 hits and eight runs, all earned, over 6.2 innings of work. The Waco, Texas-native struck out five hitters in the loss, allowing him to take sole possession of fourth place on UALR's all-time single-season list for strikeouts with 88.
With the game tied at 2-all in bottom of the sixth, ULL took advantage of a pair of walks to plate three runs and take a 5-2 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns scored their first two runs of the frame off a RBI double by Kolin Hatfield and a run-scoring single by Matt Casbon. Hatfield scored the final run of the frame on a fielding error in left.
ULL tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run homer to left by Hawkins, before putting the game away in the eighth by plating five runs. Hicks delivered the big blow in the eighth with a two-run triple to left center.
Senior Brian Asbill went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Trojans, while junior Robert Taylor picked up his team-leading 15th double in the top of the ninth.
The two teams return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
