LAS VEGAS, Nev. ? NCAA rebounding champion Rashad Jones-Jennings is furthering his dreams of playing in the National Basketball Association by competing in the NBA's 10-day Summer League with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The NBA Summer League is being held on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas at the COX Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center July 6-15th. Jones-Jennings will compete with his summer league teammates for a roster spot with the 76ers over the team's five-game schedule (July 6-11).
The 76ers summer league roster consists of veterans Rodney Carney, Louis Williams, Bobby Jones, Shavlik Randolph and Louis Admundson. Jones-Jennings is among a group of rookie free agent invites along with Christian Burns, John Cox, Gerry McNamara and Dustin Salisbery. The 76ers 2007 NBA Draft selections Thaddeus Young, Herbert Hill, Derrick Byars and Jason Smith round out the team's summer league squad.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Jones-Jennings played 17.5 minutes in Philadelphia's 91-89 loss to the Detroit Pistons on July 7, finishing with five points, two rebounds and two steals.
Philadelphia has two games remaining in its summer league schedule. The 76ers will take on the Los Angeles Lakers tonight at 8 p.m. ET, before facing the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, June 11 at 8 p.m. ET. As a senior in 2006-07, Jones-Jennings earned First Team All-Sun Belt and First Team NABC All-District honors after averaging 12.5 points and an NCAA-best 13.1 rebounds per game. He was named Sun Belt Male Student-Athlete of the Year and is the only Sun Belt player competing in the NBA Summer League.
