Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The UALR Trojans baseball opened up a three-game series with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns and dropped the first game by a 12-1 score. The Trojans were only able to muster six hits against ULL starter Hunter Moody.
The Ragin' Cajuns got off to a quick start against Trojan starter David Klumpp. Josh Logan led off the game with a double down the right field line. He later scored on a home run by Scott Hawkins to put UALR down 2-0 early.
In the top of the third, ULL continued the hitting barrage. After Logan walked with one out, Hawkins singled to center field, scoring Logan from second. Matt Goulas singled to right field, scoring Logan after he stole second. He later scored on a fielder's choice from Matt Hicks to put the Ragin' Cajuns up 5-0.
UALR struck back in the bottom of the third. After Jared Powell walked to start the inning, Nick DeSanctis laid down a bunt single. After a sacrifice bunt by Eric Hanlon moved the runners into scoring position, Powell scored from third on a groundout by Zach Rowles, cutting the Trojan deficit to four runs.
From there on out, it was all Louisiana-Lafayette as they scored five runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.
Klumpp only went five innings for the Trojans, giving up nine runs, eight of them earned. He also walked three and struck out two.
Moody, by comparison, went eight innings for ULL, striking out nine Trojans on the day and only walking one.
Powell and DeSanctis were two of six Trojan hitters to only collect one hit apiece in the series opener.
The series continues today, March 22, at Gary Hogan Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
