UALR Loses Close Game to Louisiana-Lafayette

Box Score

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? After only tallying one run and six hits against the Ragin' Cajuns yesterday, the UALR Trojans baseball team (4-15, 1-5) managed to score six runs and pounded out 12 hits, but it still wasn't enough as the home team fell 7-6 today at Gary Hogan Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns jumped on Trojan starter Levi Laughlin early as Josh Logan led off the game with a home run to right field.  The Cajuns added another run to take an early 2-0 lead against UALR.

The home team battled back in the bottom half of the first.  Eric Hanlon started off the game with a double to center field.  He later scored on a ground out by Matt Apfel.  With two outs, Greg McCarthy walked and Robert Taylor was hit by a pitch.  Brad Swiderski singled to center field, scoring McCarthy.  Nick DeSanctis singled through the left side scoring Taylor, putting UALR up 3-2 after one inning.

In the top of the second, Thad Griffen led off the inning with a walk.  William Long doubled down the left field line.  Logan then doubled to left field, scoring both runners and putting ULL up 4-3.

The Ragin' Cajuns added another run in the top of the third before UALR came back in the bottom half of the inning.

UALR got back-to-back singles from Apfel and McCarthy and a sacrifice bunt from Robert Taylor to move the runners into scoring position.  After Swiderski struck out, DeSanctis reached first on a throwing error from the third baseman, scoring Apfel and McCarthy.  That tied up the score at five apiece.

A double from Scott Hawkins put the Ragin' Cajuns up by a run after four innings of work.  UALR answered in the bottom half of the inning.  Clay Rominger singled to third base and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher.  After a single by Hanlon, Kody Kroll got to first on a fielder's choice, scoring Rominger and knotting up the score again.

After a scoreless fifth inning, ULL took the lead for good in the top of the sixth.  Again it was Logan who committed the damage against the Trojans, singling up the middle after the Ragin' Cajuns got the first two outs of the inning.  After Logan stole second, Chance Harst singled to center field, scoring Logan from second, putting the visitors up 7-6.

Hanlon went 3-for-5 on the day for the Trojans.  Kroll, Apfel, Swiderski, and DeSanctis each had an RBI for the Trojans.

Laughlin went six and a third innings, giving up seven runs, three walks, and striking out two batters.

Logan went 3-for-4 for the Ragin' Cajuns with three RBIs.  He accounted for three of the Ragin' Cajuns eight hits on the day.

UALR returns to Gary Hogan Field looking to salvage the final game of the series against Louisiana-Lafayette.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
