Box Score TROY, Ala. ? Tim Wheeler threw a complete-game, five-hit shutout on Friday night to lead Troy (23-16, 11-5) to a 4-0 win over the UALR baseball team (8-26, 4-13) in the first contest of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
Wheeler went the full nine innings in the win, improving to 3-4 on the year by holding the Trojans to five hits and two walks. He retired the first six hitters of the game and faced just 30 batters on the night, as the Troy defense turned four double plays in the win.
Michael Precise and Bryan Miller each went 3-for-4 in the win, with Precise adding a team-high two RBI. Precise led off the third with a solo homer (his eighth of the year) and added a run-scoring double in the fifth to make it a 3-0 game.
Senior David Klumpp (1-7) took the loss for UALR after allowing 11 hits and four runs over 6.2 innings of work. The Waco, Texas-native totaled four strikeouts on the night to extend his career total to 126 and move into sixth place on the school's all-time list for strikeouts.
Five different players accounted for UALR's five hits, with senior Robert Taylor extending his hitting streak to a team-high eight games with a 1-for-3 effort.
The second game of the series will be played tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
