ST. LOUIS, Mo.
- The UALR Trojan
swimming and diving team opened their season with a dual match at St. Louis University this afternoon. Stephens College also competed at the event. St. Louis defeated UALR by the score of 83-20 but the
Trojans got the best of Stephens
College as they had a big
78-15 victory.
There were 12 events on the afternoon and Trojan
top-finisher finished no worse than third in any one event.
Jordan Moon enjoyed the only first-place finish
on the afternoon for the Trojans as she won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time
of 11:04.26. She finished nine seconds better than the second-place swimmer,
who was Laura Robertson of St. Louis.
The Trojans got a second-place finish today in the
200-yard freestyle from Stephanie Heutel
who was narrowly defeated by Katie Kolster of St. Louis. Heutel finished with a time of
2:02.16 while Kolster clocked in at 2:00.01.
UALR got big contributions from freshman Paige Thoman, as well. Thoman came in
with a time of 1:03.27 in the 100-yard backstroke which was second best in the
race. Audra Stalzer finished just a
shade behind Kaitlyn Adams in the 100-yard breaststroke as they finished with
times of 1:13.02 and 1:12.38 respectively.
In relay action, the Trojans finished second behind the
host school in the 200-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle. Thoman, Brenda Gannon, Amy Tran, and Heutel finished the medley relay with a mark of
1:58.50. The combination of Heutel,
Victoria Lovellette, Kyrsten Rezac and Tran had a time of 1:46.71 in the freestyle
event.
The Trojans will have their home opener next Friday, Oct.
23 when they host Hendrix and Rhodes for a dual match at the Donaghey Center
Natatorium.
