LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR Trojan Swimming and Diving squad opened their first home
meet of the season by knocking off Hendrix
College 117-66 and Rhodes College
118-47 Friday night at the Donaghey Center Natatorium. Hendrix women beat
Rhodes women 102-75 and in men's action Hendrix defeated Rhodes
127-74.
The Trojans made it look easy as they finished nine of the
11 events in which they competed in first-place.
In individual swims, Jordan
Moon was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.55.
Vanessa Morris of Hendrix was the next best finisher with a time of 11:09.90.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Heutel was the
top-finisher in the 200-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 1:59.56. Heutel
was the only participant to finish the race under the two minute mark.
Heutel was also victorious in the 100-yard backstroke,
finishing with a time of 1:01.91.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Jenna Rutecki earned a very close victory as she edged out Kristen
Griffin of Rhodes. Rutecki finished in 26.23
while Griffin
was right behind with a time of 26.37. Freshman Rebecca McEachern was third in the event with a time of 26.53.
A pair of freshmen were able to chip in and pick up
top-finishes on the evening for UALR. Paige
Thoman won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.22. Her
teammate, Audra Stalzer was second
in the race with a time of 2:19.71. In the 100-yard butterfly, Amy Tran was the top-finisher with a
time of 1:04.07 and she was followed closed by Moon, who finished with a mark
of 1:04.59.
The Trojans were victorious in two of three relay races.
Thoman, Stalzer, Tran and Krysten Rezac
finished the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:00.13 which was over a
second better than the next best finish. UALR then went on to record a
first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Thoman, Rezac, Victoria Lovellette and Heutel finished
with a mark of 1:43. 65. Hendrix came in second at 1:48.39.
UALR returns to action next weekend when they
travel to Conway
for the Hendrix Classic and Hendrix Relays. The Hendrix Classic takes place on
Friday evening while the Hendrix Relays begins on Saturday.
