Box Score TULSA, Okla. ? Conference USA preseason Player of the Year Jerome Jordan scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Tulsa (3-0) to a 59-45 victory over the UALR men's basketball team (0-2) Tuesday afternoon on ESPN.
Junior Solomon Bozeman led the Trojans with 17 points in the losing effort, going 5-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range. UALR shot just 32.7 percent for the game and was outscored 30-to-16 in the paint.
Jordan was a one-man show in the first half, scoring 15 of his 19 points over the first 20 minutes to help Tulsa take a 25-20 lead into the break. UALR missed its first four shots of the second half and Tulsa parlayed the missed field goals into a quick 6-0 run to extend its lead to 11 points, 31-20.
After holding Tulsa to a .320 field goal percentage in the first half, the Trojans allowed the Golden Hurricane to shoot 50.0 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes. Leading 31-24, Tulsa put together an 11-2 run to extend its lead to 16 points, 42-26, with 9:08 to go.
Down by 16, Bozeman sank a pair of three pointers as part of a quick 7-0 run to cut the Trojans' deficit to nine points, 42-33. With its lead cut to nine, Tulsa scored six-unanswered points in the paint to push its lead back to 15, 50-35. Jordan capped off the 6-0 spurt with a dunk at the 4:11 mark and the Golden Hurricane led by at least 10 points the rest of the way.
UALR held Tulsa to a .421 field goal percentage on the day, including a miserable 3-of-18 effort from beyond the arc (16.7 percent). Preseason All-Conference USA selection Ben Uzoh managed just nine points on 4-of-14 shooting.
Jordan was 6-of-12 from the field and 7-of-7 at the foul line with a pair of blocks in the win. Justin Hurtt led all players with 10 rebounds to help the Golden Hurricane to a 35-33 edge on the glass, while Donte Medder chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Bozeman was the only Trojan to score in double figures, totaling 14 of his team-high 17 points in the second half. Senior Mike Smith added six points and a team-high six rebounds in the loss.
UALR returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts St. Gregory's at 7 p.m.
