UALR Swimming & Diving Announces the Signing of Two Swimmers

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - UALR Head Swimming and Diving Coach Amy Burgess today announced the signing of Holly Myers and Hope Myers, who will join the program in the fall of 2010.

Holly and Hope, twin sisters from Purvis High School in Mississippi bring experience from a successful high school career with them both in the pool and in the classroom.

"We are very excited for Hope and Holly to join us next fall," Burgess said, "Holly will be a great contributor in our sprint free and backstroke events, while Hope is a very versatile swimmer that will be able to help in most events."

Holly Myers will join the program after a storied career at Purvis High School, where she was named the Mississippi Swimming Most Valuable Female Swimmer after being selected by coaches from across the state. She was a Hattiesburg American All-Star selection and a three-time Area Prep All-Star. In addition, she was named Player of the Year last year for her performance during the high school season.

Holly Myers was a state high school swim champion in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke for three consecutive years and was the 100-yard freestyle champion once. She was a Mississippi Zone Team selection and was a representative for the state of Mississippi at the Southern Zone State Championships. She is ranked in the top-five in numerous short course and long course events in the state of Mississippi.

Aside from her contributions in the pool, she has been selected as a National Athlete Representative, National Committee Member for USA Swimming, and representative to the Mississippi Swimming Board of Directors as a junior and senior. She is also a part of the PHS Student Council and was voted a class officer. A co-captain and four year letterman, Holly Myers is an honor student and intends to major in healthcare.

Hope Myers, who with her twin sister was a co-captain and a four-year letterman at PHS, will also come to UALR after a successful high school career. She earned the Top-Five Award as she was ranked by Mississippi Swimming in the top-five of numerous short and long course events. Furthermore, she is a MHSAA Swimming Championship two-time medalist and a MHSAA South State Championship three-time gold medalist.

Hope Myers was also a member of the YMCA Hub Fins swim team and is a team-record holder on multiple relay events. She was the local swim club athlete representative for Mississippi swimming and, along with her sister, was selected to teach the Swim America Program.

A three-year letterman for the track team at PHS, Hope Myers is also a member of the student council and was elected a class officer by her peers. Like her sister, she is an honors student and her intended college major is healthcare.

Coach Burgess believes that all the successes of the twin sisters will translate into helping the UALR swimming and diving program continue to grow and prosper in the coming years.

"Outside the water, Hope and Holly are going to provide great enthusiasm for our developing program."
