Sluggish Start at Wright State Dooms Trojans

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio. - A 17-0 run by the Wright State Raiders to open the game was too much for UALR to overcome as the Trojans dropped their fourth-straight contest 69-47 Tuesday evening in front of 3,894 fans at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

UALR did not crack the scoreboard until a free throw by Kelson Stewart with 12:15 left to play in the opening period. From that point, the Raiders built their lead to 21-1 before UALR went on a 7-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 21-8 after a pair of free throws by junior guard Alex Garcia-Mendoza at the 8:43 mark. That's as close as the Trojans would get, however, as Wright State used 21 points off UALR turnovers to cruise to their seventh victory of the season.

With the loss, the Trojans fell to 4-9 on the year and have now lost four-straight games for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

The Raiders, who were led by a 16-point effort from guard Troy Tabler, shot 46.3 percent from the field on 25-of-54 shooting while out-rebounding the Trojans 36-30.

UALR was paced offensively by Garcia-Mendoza, who finished with a season-best 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including a 6-for-8 effort at the free throw line. Junior guard Matt Mouzy chipped in nine points and knocked down a pair of three pointers which ties him for ninth place on the school's all-time list with 123. Sophomore forward Courtney Jackson led the Trojans for the second straight game on the glass as he posted a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Trojans will look to put an end to their four-game losing streak and pick up their first Sun Belt victory of the 2009-10 campaign when they return to the Jack Stephens Center on New Year's Eve to play North Texas. Tip-off between the Trojans and the Mean Green is set for 4:30 p.m.
